Find freedom with portable wheelchair ramps
You would have often come across places in your office, public areas, or even your home which are difficult to access in wheelchairs. But luckily, portable wheelchair ramps are now available which make even these inaccessible parts within reach.
Portable wheelchair ramps are built from aluminum or steel and can be easily moved around from one to another offering you easy access to vehicles and stairs. Permanent wheelchair ramps installed in different places in the home can prove to be an expensive affair, portable wheelchair ramps come in handy in such situations as you can use just one single ramp at multiple locations inside and even outside your home.
The ramps are designed for appropriate weight tolerances and slope ratios making them easy to use. It’s probably because of this extensive research which went into finding the right slope ratios that their development got delayed. But the wait was worth it as they offer a high degree of ease in using.
There are different types of portable wheelchair ramps. Lets look at each of one them briefly.
The suitcase variety of ramps is probably the most popular. They are large enough to easily cover up to two steps and can be easily folded to a size of a suitcase when not in use. But even when folded, they are a little difficult to manage because of their average 41 pound weight and their bulk.
This shortcoming is taken care of in the rolling ramp model which is not just light weight but also more stable and stronger than the suitcase type of ramps. It is easy to use too as all you need to do is to unroll it on a flat surface, invert it, and you are ready with your ramp. The only drawback is probably the peculiar appearance of these types of ramps which is more than enough compensated for by their advantages.
Another type of portable wheelchair ramps are the Van portable ramps designed for use in stowing the wheelchair into a van using either the back door or side door. They are easy to install and can take a weight of up to eight hundred pounds. They are built from special aluminum making them lightweight and also have anti skid surfaces for added safety.
You might think that it is easy to build a wheelchair ramp and decide to do so yourself. But though they may be a cheaper option they are not without risks. An unstable ramp, or one which cannot take the desired weight can lead to a lot of wastage of time and effort and worse still may result in some accident. It is best to go for commercially manufactured portable wheelchair ramps which have been thoroughly tested. After all, safety comes first.
A good wheelchair ramp can let you have the freedom of movement and you will be less dependent on others.
